ELEPHANT’S ENCYCLOPEDIA : Elephant Life Cycle. A female elephant will be ready to breed around the age of thirteen. When she comes into estrus, a short phase of receptiveness, lasting for 2-4 days. The elephant’s gestation period is 18-22 months, the longest of any land animal. The Elephant Life Cycle, the oldest elephant on record died at the age of 82 in Sri Lanka but typically elephants live to 60-70 years old.

A newborn elephant weighs about 80-120 kg  and is about 75cm-1 metre tall. Elephants have a very long childhood, learning all the time from their mothers and elders how to behave in their society and how to survive in their environment.
